This is all that's left of a barbed wire fence that, I presume, marked the edge of someone's farm a long time ago. The tree has formed itself to the fence, now long gone.

It is amazing how a tree can swallow things including barbed wire. The tree roots can also life cement driveways and house foundations. You wouldn't think that it would be possible.
